In an ERP implementation project, the expression ‘go live’ is often synonymous with the Holy Grail. But while putting the ERP into a real-life situation is a crucial step, its long-term success lies in maintaining the solution, solving problems and taking charge of its development. This is referred to as AMS and EDS. But what lies behind these acronyms? And what about Sileron’s AMS for SAP Business ByDesign ERP?
What is AMS?
AMS stands for Application Management Services. Simply put, it covers all the operational activities that follow the implementation phase of an IT project.
At Sileron, AMS for SAP Business ByDesign ERP includes:
- Managing and resolving incidents and change requests,
- User support,
- And training.
It is in a way the equivalent of an after-sales service for an information system.
AMS can involve both functional aspects (such as configuring new settings or activating new processes) and technical aspects (like custom developments or implementing interfaces). In short, it includes corrective, preventive, and evolutionary maintenance for an ERP system.
When do we talk about a TME for an EDS?
While AMS is a fairly common term, EDS is a bit less known—but no less essential. EDS covers what we call technical monitoring and infrastructure operations.
This includes system upgrades, applying patches (minor updates for SAP systems), and managing all version updates of the ERP (also known as upgrades).
